A Great Escape to Europe
To experience the good tastes and fantastic sights of Europe without the hassle of a land trip, a Med cruise is the perfect choice. Most cruise ships travel around the Mediterranean throughout the year; however, some sail only from May to September. Every day, the ships call at a different port, and all the accommodation, food, and drinks are already paid for.
There are several Mediterranean cruises to choose from, depending on whether one wants to go east or west. One could take cruises in the Western Mediterranean that sail to major ports in France, Italy, and Spain. Most of the cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean extend through the Aegean and Adriatic seas across Greece and Turkey, and may also include several ports in Northern Africa. There are cruises with stopovers in the historic cultural centres of Florence, Athens, Istanbul, and Rome, plus island destinations where sun-seekers can relax on the beach.
When selecting a cruise, it is advisable to research the ports where your ship will call, so you can get the most out of your visit by knowing the possible attractions that are not included in the actual cruise guide. For instance, if you want to travel to Rome, the cruise ship will dock in the port of Civitavecchia. Then you have to make a transfer to get to the city. Knowing what’s in the city before making the trip can give you more chances to see the impressive and spectacular landmarks and explore other locations aside from those on the actual guide from the cruise. This is just one of the many ways to maximise the enjoyment of your cruise of the Mediterranean.
